Food & meat delivery · Peterborough & the Kawarthas
Shopease has been on Rye Street since 1984. Your order gets planned here, packed here, and the person who knocks on your door works here. For Peterborough families we’re not a company that ships to you. We’re the one you drive past.
All our meat comes from Ontario farms. Not imported, and not whatever happened to be cheapest that month.
That means something different here than it does in a city. Drive twenty minutes out of Peterborough in most directions and you’re in the countryside this food comes from. It isn’t a marketing line for you. It’s the view out the window.
We won’t tell you it tastes better, because of course we would. Here’s a customer of seven years instead.
Three families have run Shopease since 1984, and Steve Gunsolus is the third. He still does planning calls himself, which surprises people who expect the owner to be somewhere else.
You don’t last forty years in a city this size on one-off sales. Most Peterborough customers came to us because a parent, a neighbour or somebody at work told them to give us a call.
A Peterborough family and a Sudbury family get quoted exactly the same way, because delivery is built into the order rather than charged by distance.
What’s different is that when you ring with a question, the people who can answer it are in the same town. If a delivery needs shifting, the person shifting it is here. Most of what annoys people about buying food at a distance is the waiting, and there isn’t much of it when the warehouse is across town.
Plenty of Kawartha households run two freezers, one at home and one at the lake, and the year isn’t evenly spread. There are weeks in July when the house is full and weeks in February when it’s the two of you.
Say so and the order gets built around it. Bigger packs of whatever gets eaten when there’s a crowd, smaller ones for the quiet stretch, and the whole thing split across two deliveries if the freezer can’t take it in one go.
You tell us how thick you like a steak, what size roast fits your oven, how much ground beef you’ll get through in one go, whether the chicken comes whole or halved or in portions.
Those instructions go on the order in writing rather than being remembered by somebody, and everything’s cut and wrapped to match. It costs nothing, and it’s the real difference between this and the same weight off a shelf.
Tell your Food Planner what you’re working with before the order gets finalized. We’ll build to the space you’ve actually got, or split the order in two, or bring you a chest or upright at our cost on the same trip. The freezer space guide has the sizes worked out.
These are places we already deliver to, not postal codes we hope to reach. If your town is not on the list, text your postal code to (705) 304-0080 and we will tell you the same day.
We're at 7-774 Rye Street. Call ahead on (705) 745-4242 so somebody is expecting you, because the building is a working warehouse and freezer, not a storefront.
Peterborough itself, plus Lakefield, Bridgenorth, Ennismore, Douro, Keene, Cavan, Millbrook, Havelock and out to Lindsay. If your address isn't obviously one of those, text your postal code to (705) 304-0080.
The date still depends on the route that week and on your items being in and packed. Being close means we're near you often, not that we can promise a day at the table.
Yes. Tell your Food Planner you're running two freezers and how the year splits between them, and the order and the deliveries are built around that.
Since 1984. Three families have owned it in that time and the current owner still plans orders with customers himself.
It depends on the size of the order, and we don't guess. Our loaner chart matches order size to freezer size and your Food Planner works from it. A mid-size chest freezer of about 10 cubic feet covers most family orders. If you're short we split the delivery in two or supply a freezer at our cost.
Yes, and being local makes it easy to ask a question about it. Steak thickness, roast weight, ground beef pack size. Your instructions are written on the order, and everything is cut and wrapped to match before it's packed here.
Yes. Someone needs to check the order against the delivery slip and sign for it. The driver carries it in and puts it where you want it rather than leaving it at the door.
You've 14 days from delivery under our Perfect-Fit Promise to tell us an item doesn't suit your family and we replace it. Everything carries a 12-month quality guarantee. Being ten minutes away, this is usually a short conversation.
